This geometric carpet is a soft texture Hamadan with reds and olive green. The colours are usually earthy and vibrant: indigo blue and madder red, which mellow over time. Hamadan is a trading hub for carpet weaving villages. The best examples of rugs are sold under their own titles – Nahavand, Toyserkan and Malayer. While the simple and rustic weaves are sold under the generic name. The Turkish or Ghiordes knot is used, similar to the carpets of Tabriz, which is near Hamadan. Camel hair can sometimes be used for the pile. When wool is used it ranges from coarse to medium in quality. They are often made in small sizes and runners, and the designs are unique to each village.
