Baluchi saddle bag
Age: Vintage 60+years
Location: Afghanistan
Size:59×130
This warm Baluchi saddle bag can be used as a rug on the floor, a cushion, bag or wall hanging. Handmade from coarse wool, this rustic item is in excellent condition, with tassels and side stitching and the loops to hold the bag closed still intact. This would be a great statement piece in a lounge room or office. Nomads in Turkey, Persia, and the Caucasus used saddle and grain bags in everyday life. Small bags were for donkeys, larger ones for horses or camels. There are a combination of colours and styles so they are each unique, and various techniques are used to create them: tapestry, soumak, brocading and knotted pile.
