Northwest of Iran, the city of Tabriz is a trading centre known for high quality carpets since the 15th century. The rugs of this region feature a medallion in the middle, surrounded by floral garden motifs in a wide variety of colours, such as ivory, copper, terracotta, and burgundy, with navy and soft blue, salmon, gold, tan and green used as highlights. The elaborate patterns are produced with a combination of Persian and Turkish knot styles. This handmade wool carpet has the samovar pattern in the navy blue border, a red centre with a yellow-green frame and an ivory border for the central medallion.
