These two Kunduz carpets are available separately or as a pair. Both are high quality wool with rich reds and blues with gold outlines on the gul motif and flat weave at each end with an indigo/blue tone, the pleasing colour comes from natural vegetable dyes and they are guaranteed to bring a warm atmosphere to any room.
Khal Mohammadi carpets are good quality rugs from Afghanistan with warm carpets with rich dark colours, deep reds and dark blue or black. The distinctive dyes were developed by a Turkman Khal Mohammadi. The detail varies between carpets but the pattern is usually repeated columns of ‘gul’ (elephant footprints) and a section of decorative flat weave at each end of the rug. Most now come from the area around Kunduz in north Afghanistan, two variations are Beljik with a higher knot count and the Kunduz style with better quality wool with a softer pile, these are both finer quality than standard Khal Mohammadi carpets.
